What to expect when you work with me.
I know meeting and working with someone new can take a lot of energy, especially if you don’t know what to expect. Here's a little about how I work.
The technical stuff
Bookings
Video calls
Most of my clients meet me over video. This is optional — we can chat on the phone, or even stick to text/email if you prefer! But here’s what to expect if we do video.
You will receive a calendar invite when you book in with me via my Tidycal link, or if I set up a meeting in my Google Calendar, I will email you an invite. The event in your calendar will have a Google Meet link in it (shown in the screenshot to your right).
When you click the link, Google Meet will open in a browser window. You don’t have to install or log into anything — however if you are not logged into a Google account, you may need to wait for me to let you into the meeting.
Calls are never recorded, and I do not use AI to transcribe.
When you join a video call
My workspace
I work from home, and I will either be sitting at my desk in my office, or sitting in my recliner chair in my living room. Both areas have lots of things in the background (my house has a bit of a maximalist aesthetic!). If this is distracting, you can let me know and I’ll hide my background, no questions asked.
During our call — what I’ll be doing
I may fidget (with something quiet) and move around in my chair while we talk. Fidgeting helps me concentrate, and changing positions helps with my chronic illness symptoms. When I move or fidget, I am still listening.
My cat (Lainie) will probably make an appearance… because she likes to be involved in everything. I will usually give her a little bit of love and gently coax her into her bed, but I will still be listening to you. I’m very much used to her invasions and it doesn’t distract me from conversation.
You'll sometimes see me look away from the camera while I type. I like to take notes as we talk so I can remember details, keep track of action items, and make sure nothing important gets missed. My keyboard is quiet and people don’t tend to hear it, but if you need me to stop typing at any time, you are more than welcome to tell me.
During our call — your needs come first
You can take a break at any time. Even if that means abruptly leaving the call without saying anything, I won’t think you’re being rude. I will check in via text to make sure you’re okay if I don’t hear from you shortly afterwards.
You can turn the camera off. I will turn mine off too.
If talking is taking up too much energy, but we’re working on something or you want to stay on the call for any reason, you can use the chat function instead (see right).
Communication
If I don't understand something, I'll ask questions rather than make assumptions.
If you need extra processing time, want me to repeat something, or would like me to slow down, that's absolutely fine. There’s no need to apologise or try to fill silences.
If speaking isn't the easiest way for you to communicate something, we can also use the chat during our call.
There isn't a "right" way to work together.
You don't need to mask, make eye contact, or communicate in a particular way for me. My goal is to create a way of working together that suits you.
If there's anything that would make our meetings easier or more comfortable, you're welcome to let me know before or during our work together.
